Are you spending three or more days in Oñati? That is perfect for combining with trips to cities such as Donostia-San Sebastián, Vitoria-Gasteiz or Bilbao.

The first stop will be the Aizkorri Natural Park. You can walk the adapted path that leads us to the Gomiztegi Farmhouse, a school for shepherding, or if you are used to walking in mountains, we suggest you hike up to the fields of Urbia or the Aloña and/or Aizkorri summits.

The second stop will be the Sanctuary of Arantzazu and its cript, where the work of well-known artists such as Oteiza, Chillida and Basterretxea can be seen. That is a perfect place for the Basque snack “hamarretako” of txorizo, cheese and cider in some of the ancient inns, which have been turned into hotels and restaurants.

The third stop will take place in the Oñati-Arrikrutz Caves, where the one-hour visit will give you the opportunity to see the only specimen of cave lion found in the State and/or if you want to be speleologist for a day, you will be able to enter one of the cave’s speleological treasures: the big “eccentric” of Arrikrutz.

The fourth stop will be the historical town of Oñati, where the Basque Country’s first university (1548) can be visited as well as San Miguel Parish Church, with its cloister placed over a river, various palaces and the tower-house of the Count.

The Chocolate Interpretation Centre “Txokolateixia” will be the fifth stop, surrounded by parks a gardens for a walk. In summer, we can make use of the greenway that leads us to Usako, a natural swimming area.

The sixth stop will be Donostia-San Sebastián, Bilbao or Vitoria-Gasteiz, as we can take advantage of the proximity of capital cities travelling by car (less than 60 min) or taking the bus from San Prudentzio.

21 Km – Car distance from/to Oñati, 75 km – Donostia/San Sebastián, 70 km – Bilbao, 44 km – Vitoria/Gasteiz, 10km – Arrasate/Mondragón.

6 stops – Aizkorri Natural Park, Sanctuary of Arantzazu, Oñati-Arrikrutz Caves, historical town of Oñati and Chocolate Interpretation Centre “Txokolateixia”, Donostia-San Sebastián, Bilbao or Vitoria-Gasteiz capital cities.
